Bundles of printed documents

palletizing bundles of printed documents

Automatic palletizing bundles of printed documents like newspapers or magazines requires a very specific approach. First of all, the infeed conveyor must be designed in such a way that the lower document of the bundle cannot be pinched. When palletizing, the bundles must be supported completely at the bottom. When picking them up from the infeed conveyor, the mechanism that picks up the bundles at the bottom must slide under the bundles without touching them.

Types of bundles of printed documents

How does it work?

In order to be able to position the bundles one against each other on the pallet, the dimensions of the bundle must be taken into account when setting the gripper. The settings of the gripper must also vary depending on whether the bundles are picked up in length or in width. During the movement of the gripper to the pallet, the bundles must be held from the top so that they do not slip out of the gripper. The bundles are picked per single unit or per row. In this way high speeds can be achieved.

Bundles of printed documents are compressible, which means that we cannot work with fixed drop heights during the palletizing process. Due to their own weight the palletized bundles press the previous layers after they have be deposited. It is therefore necessary that during palletizing bundles of printed documents, the drop height is adjusted each time so that the gripper is positioned just above the previous layer during the deposit of the bundles.

When palletizing bundles which are not held together with straps, a special gripper is available in which bundles are driven out of the gripper by motorized small belts. In case of unstable loads, a semi-automatic or automatic wrapper can be integrated into the Spider. After palletizing one or a few layers, the layers are wrapped after which more layers are palletized. This continues until the pallet is completely stacked. After that the wrapper finishes the wrapping and the pallet can be removed. There are semi-automatic and automatic pallet wrappers available.
